HH-118389225-221

Having dived in Helly Hansen’s vast archive for a couple of seasons already, this time around, for SS22, HH-118389225 continues to rework the performance-driven brand’s time-proven professional-grade apparel into now-signature modular gear. Digited “221”, the capsule once again revisits sailing attire from the Ægir Offshore collection and puts it to test in a different environment altogether, away from the sea and instead on the mountains. “The connection with Norway’s rugged yet startling beauty cannot be underemphasised, as this is the land that has formed and shaped the Helly Hansen brand over the last 145 years. We wanted to pay tribute to that history with the launch of this collection’s visuals,” HH-118389225’s artistic director Graeme Gaughan commented.

Shot at the foot of a mountainous landscape, the modular pieces are matching hues from the surrounding lake beds, rocks, and snow peaks, coming in crisp white, pitch black, and in a dusty lilac camo print—the latter of which has been applied throughout the collection, from the interchangeable hood to the lynch-pin ARC Waterproof Storm jacket, ARC vest, technical rain hats, dry bags, and modular clip-on storage.

”The dusty lilac tones within the range were actually inspired by the sedimentary rocks that lie below the surface of glacier lakes most of the year, and which are exposed as the water retreats in the winter. The purity of the water leaves an alien pink shimmer to the rocks for short periods of time until the ice melts and consumes them again in the summer. The seasons changing from winter to spring is Norway at it's most break-taking, and we wanted to capture that transition to the fullest,” Graeme continued.

Flagship styles, such as the HH ARC 3L Modular Coat, make a return. Wearable in three different ways, the full-length coat features the HELLY TECH® 3L performance shell fabrication, interchangeable spray hoods, removable panels and a breathable removable gilet, too. Elsewhere, the HH ARC SMOCK’s lightweight design enables the wearer to adapt to varying temperatures and offers additional protection through waterproof ventilation zippers. Meanwhile, details such as 3-layer shell technology, ultrasonic taped seams, reinforced webbing load eyelets and modular interchangeable spray hoods that attach to multiple key styles are omnipresent.

“HH-118389225 operates outside the norm of Helly Hansen’s inline products. And we can fully explore this freedom through colour, print and shape. It is a place for us to explore, experiment and develop with one foot in a fashion universe and the other in the outdoors, whilst ensuring we remain true to the brand’s core principles,” HH-118389225’s design director Dorte Vedal concluded.
