DR.MARTENS: A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
What Dr.Martens is now, and what it was meant to be, could not be more of a contrast. What started out as a work boot that got reinvented thanks to some German innovation to help create what we know as the iconic AirWair sole, the shoes were very much pieces of uniform for postmen and factory workers.
In more recent years, we have seen multiple labels rework iconic silhouettes of the footwear with the likes of Raf Simons, Supreme, Rick Owens, Engineered Garments, A Cold Wall, and Vetements, all approaching joint projects with great distinction. In turn, we have seen multiple Japanese labels, such as Yohji Yamamoto, Hender Scheme, Fragment Design, Needles, Wtaps, and Undercover, to name but a few, do the same and bridge the gap between West and East... or more specifically, between Camden and Ura-Harajuku /
