MACHINE-A X DENIM TEARS
As part of Machine-A ongoing effort to work and collaborate with exciting and influential brands, this month saw the release of an exclusive collection between the London based retailer and L.A. based label Denim Tears.
Designed by Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory and London based curator Khalid Wildman, the collection consists of re-adapted Union-Jack trousers and knit jumper, graphic jersey and track pieces, alongside leaf print shirting.
The capsule, firstly inspired by the historical facts of the Windrush and soon evolved into something more abstract but maintaining Jamaica as its key focus. The collection also highlights elements of iconography, placing the point of view somewhere between identity and surrealism.
Khalid Wildman will also create a bespoke installation to house the collection within the Machine A boutique alongside the collection. The space will focus and feature works by Jamaican Intuitive artist Sylvester Stephens consisting of a clay bust of Artist Dennis Wilson. Additionally, a painting by an unknown European artist painted in 1954 depicting Haile's Selassie will also be part of the installation.
"I see Tremaine's work with DenimTears as an inspirational and honest narrative, which is what I am particularly interested in. MACHINE-A's commitment is to create an environment for people to experience multi-layered storytelling, get informed, start a dialogue and connect with something meaningful. The young generation of people with whom the store is most connected are always searching for precisely this. Alongside the calibre of Tremaine's and Khalid's vision expressed through DenimTears collection and the in-store installation becomes the perfect reason for all of us coming physically together and connecting with something real and significant" - Stavros Karelis - Machine A
