PAUL MCCARTNEY: FIND MY WAY
Let’s take a minute to assess what has just happened in the cultural sphere: a young Sir Paul McCartney in his prime has returned to the fold, in fine (and digitalised) form, to remind us mere mortals what it’s like to be, forever and always, a Beatle /
Such return of a true icon is thrilling to witness, but alas isn’t really real. The young Beatle dancing and fooling around in the videoclip of McCartney’s new track “Find My Way” reveals himself to be, in a twist, someone else entirely: Beck, who, besides deepfaking a living legend, features on the track.
"The technology to de-age talent and have them perform in creative environments like this is now fully-realised, even with one of the most recognised faces in the world," said Hyperreal’s CEO Remington Scott in a statement, who specialises in making hyper-realistic digital avatars.
Yet while physically replicated by someone/something else, the sound, the rock star’s musical magnetism are things that can’t be performed by no one, no machine but the man himself. “Don’t take Paul McCartney’s enduring gifts — natural melody, succinctly surprising lyrics, sly chord progressions, tidy arrangements — for granted. Other songwriters don’t,” remarked The New York Times.
“Find My Way” is the opening track of Paul McCartney’s just released III Imagined, which features a number of A-list talent such as Damon Albarn, Anderson .Paak, Blood Orange, Phoebe Bridgers, EOB, Dominic Fike, Khruangbin, St. Vincent and others. The album is now released on vinyl, CD and cassette via Capitol Records.
