STORY MFG. X DISTRICT VISION

Story mfg. really goes above and beyond most other fashion players’ quote-on-quote “sustainable” practice. They travel and actually meet the artisans who produce their collections and, with them, they create their own world that is separate from what the rest of the industry does. Whatever may be trending at the minute, the brand perfects their craft, keeps on crocheting, on finding ways to naturally dye garments, on making things that hopefully people will keep for a long time, and build their wardrobe around them.

Yet if what the label designs goods that are made to last far beyond what the market is saturated with (cough, cough, fast-fashion), this time around they’ve taken a different approach. Together with District Vision, Story mfg.’s Saeed and Katy Al-Rubeyi dreamt up a pair of Takeyoshi Altitude Master sunglasses, which is made from the cellulose of non-edible plant scraps, making it both biodegradable and recyclable for future use. In the spirit of transparency, they insist that the nose and ear pads, though, aren’t.

Coming with a hand-crocheted (and, of course, naturally-dyed) carry-pouch and a special-edition hand-carved stone necklace, and uniquely made up of deep brown bioplastic with tonal nose and ear pads, and rose-tinted lenses, the shades’ temple are signed off with the phrase "الحركة بركة”, which means 'movement is a blessing' in one of Saeed's mother tongues /
