GENTLE FULLNESS SS22

A benevolent disruptor to the careless, profit-at-all-costs mindset that keeps the fashion industry’s stubborn resistance to concrete institutional change alive, STORY mfg. paved their way to explore alternate, often forgotten ways and practices of designing clothes. Whether it’s by creating fabrics, patterns, and dyes with traditional artisan collaborators or aiming to produce zero waste etc, the company’s co-founders Saeed and Katy Al-Rubeyi’s desire has always been to do good. After nearly a decade of doing so, now they’re launching a new brand together with long-time STORY mfg. contributor stylist Dan Pacitti, called Gentle Fullness, which, while set up with the same positive-oriented aim, explores a whole new set of designs.

Most styles from the inaugural collection will be familiar to vintage-lovers. Indeed, both the Charm jacket and shirt take inspiration from 90’s-inspired, military-centric garments. Made in sturdy organic cotton canvas with a relaxed fit, they now either feature an upbeat, fun 70s retro flower print or a replica of the check pattern found on these big PVC laundry bags that have graced most households. Other pieces include baggy Found trousers, a boxy Rail jacket, bucket hats with a shorter-than-usual crown, and printed tees that sport at times supernatural-looking, at times cutesy, always feel-good graphics /
