Way back 50 years ago OG urban sportswear and functional wear designer, Massimo Osti, went on to create a garment company that would inform the now-quite-coveted lived-in look. Initially labelled Chester Perry, Osti latter changed its name to C.P. Company. But that didn’t change its sole purpose: for decades C.P. has experimented with offbeat design processes, putting out there in the shops clothes that looked like they belonged to some veteran of two world wars, still intact and not beat up, but with clear inspos from military uniforms, and workwear staples and Italian sportswear too, with natural, sort of faded shades of colour. To trace this legacy, a commemorative book C.P. Company 971 - 021 has just hit the shelves /

The thick, 400 plus pages archival resource gathers 50 personal stories from the brand’s most ardent fans and Osti’s family and close friends, as well as team members that have contributed to C.P. Company’s rich body of work, such as the current design duo Alessandro Pungetti and Paul Harvey.

Curated by Lodovico Pignatti Morano and shot by photographer Neil Bedford, some contributors featured in the book include designer Aitor Throup, who once designed a capsule for the Italian label, filmmaker Takashi Miike, and other professionals whether they’re a window cleaner, a postman, a rock star, whatever — as long as they’re a keen C.P. Company collector, they’ve had a chance to share a few words and style their own outfit.

“The ability to understand the present and interpret it... in some way, this is the meaning of this book: a gallery of portraits of real people, all very different from each other, some famous, some not, some young, and some old, all united by their profound relationship to this brand,” commented Lorenzo Osti, Massimo’s son. “These are people for whom C.P. Company has represented something more than just a brand of clothing to wear; for them it has become an idea, something that has signaled important moments in their life, and with which they have created an empathetic relationship.”
