CÔTE&CIEL x ORBE
Inspired by how it could exist on different plains outside of its core product range of accessories and bags, the Paris company côte&ciel came to wonder what would it smell like. This quest led to the development of its own signature scent with Paris based artisan perfumer, Technicoflor—with whom they have created a delicate mix of floral and aquatic notes, perfectly capturing the brand’s essence of coast and sky in a bottle.
To fully experience the scent, they’ve teamed up with sculptor and special designer Jobe Burns, who runs the London design studio ORBE, to create a sculptural scent diffuser. After some trial and error, from 3D printing attempts to experiments with ceramics and firing techniques, Burns came up with what they’ve dubbed “ATLAS”—a spaceship-like structure with a silicone base that holds a projecting ceramic plate securely as it points skyward.
“It was important that the materials had an individual presence and a symbiosis to them. The silicone presents a sensuous nuance; that of water, lightness, fluid form and purity. The ceramic disc being that of the earth; grounding, tactile, intuitive, somewhat primal. Inspired by ritual markings, four channels are carved into the disc, aiding the flow of oil, akin to water passing through the eroded landscape,” Jobe Burns commented.
Only a limited number of 80 pieces will be exclusively sold through coteetciel.com and orbe.world from 29th May.
