Jeuru’s music boasts a depth of emotions, influences and experiences, yet his productions are encompassed by awe-inspiring fragility. Off the back of his latest single “King-Malik” TNO briefly caught up with the man himself to get is 5 things /

What was the moment that changed your world ?

Two things…

Moving to Copenhagen. It really opened my world up taking a break from America and being able to meet new people, seeing myself in a new world taught me new things that I’ve come to love about myself now. They say "hygge" a lot here for a reason. It will always be something I cherish forever.

The killing of Trayvon Martin. Broke my heart so much, I never looked at society the same since then— Not in a cynical manner, but reprogrammed what being black in these present days in times really meant to the world.

Where in the world is your physical and spiritual home ?

My physical home right now is in Copenhagen, Denmark. My spiritual home will always be in back home in New York where I was born and raised.

What does the world need now ?

We need higher consciousness, to listen more and especially for white folks to help us break down the structures of racism that has plagues Black + POC worldwide for far too long. That is the only way we can secure a brighter future for us all

Who and what rocks your world ?

The people I love and call family. I have been blessed enough to be able to create my own surroundings now and it’s filled me up in ways I can never put a price on.

I also pray a lot, use it a form of meditation. Pray to the universe for stillness, reassurance and to always remember the tools life has equipped me with to do I need to do. That really keeps me grounded the most- besides a good stiff drink!

How do you use the world to inspire your creative process?

Well most of everything thing I created starts from a story that has happened in real life. Be it that I may get inspired by a quick exchange with a stranger on a night out or a story someone told me that moved me. Or sometimes even my imagination creating scenarios where I can alter things that I honestly can’t change in the world yet, but hope through art somehow I can with visual storytelling and songwriting.
