Helly Hansen HH-118389225-212

Driven by Helly Hansen’s more-than-a-century-long track record of creating functional, performance-oriented clothing, the brand’s recent line HH-118389225 takes a different approach than what you’d expect from a new direction. Instead of entirely reinventing the label’s legacy, it digs into its massive archive of technical apparel, acknowledging and working from a solid foundation rather than starting over from square one — hence the alphanumeric code, which means “archive”.

Its latest AW21 capsule, named 212, takes inspiration from Helly Hansen’s AEGIR Offshore collection that’s been specifically designed for sailors competing at the Ocean Race. As its name implies, the sailing event is an adventure like no other, one in which sailors race on the open seas for months to make it to the final port first, in one piece, and, for everyone’s sake, as dry as possible.

The pieces span a range of functional details such as three-layer shells, ultrasonic taped seams, 3M reflective detailing and interchangeable spray hoods, giving the wearer flexibility to shift  their outfit depending on what weather throws at them. Key styles include the “HH 5-1 STORM COAT”, which can be worn in five ways, and  the “HH FLOW PARKA” that’s geared up to keep warm while also allowing the wearer to cool down through ventilation zippers.

And so, while HH-118389225-212 reinterprets these professional-grade sailing pieces in a new light — the collection features modular products suited to urban life, with toned-down colours reminiscent of concrete and city lights — at its core, it remains, in essence, techwear that’s been designed to be worn in the most testing outdoor conditions /
