OAKLEY’S EYE JACKETS: ONE MORE DANCE
Last year’s hit series The Last Dance brought back the memories of a golden era to the screen, reminiscing on Michael Jordan’s outsized impact on popular culture at large. Ask anyone who watched it and they’ll tell you: Oakleys were the go-to shades for most Chicago Bulls top players. Outside of the basketball court, the likes of Jordan and true style icon Dennis Rodman endorsed the sports eyewear brand and, in turn, helped making one of their models instantly iconic. Namely, the Eye Jacket.
Initially 3-D printed by Oakley’s designers, the original Eye Jacket is still making waves to this day. In a throwback to its success as a purveyor of high-performance yet fresh-looking sunglasses, Oakley now re-releases, or re-choreographs, both the Eye Jacket and Eye Jacket Redux models in an encore rendition aptly named One More Dance.
Featuring NBA players Kelly Oubre Jr. and Damian Lillard, the campaign may look familiar to some since it pays tribute to sports icons Jordan and Rodman by mimicking the ads they once shot in the 90s.
“I grew up in the ‘90s, during what many consider to be the golden era of professional basketball,” commented Lillard. “I remember seeing Eye Jacket on the faces of many of the game’s top players back then and it’s still immediately recognisable to me today.”
The two frames are now being sold through the Oakley webstore with just 250 pieces available for purchase worldwide /
