NOAH x NEW ORDER

It seems somehow befitting that New Order, the band that truly ‘found themselves’ by hardwiring into NYC in the midst of great mourning and loss of faith, would pave so many cultural and creative paths for Noah, the brand that are today celebrating the indelible influence of New Order on the cultures and sub cultures that raised them with a beautiful homage in the form of a capsule collection.

Residents and proud patrons of NYC Noah welcome the sounds, smells and sights of the five boroughs to infuse their recipe for producing good clothing ... a brand obsessed with bands and especially this particular one, who regularly allow music as 'the ultimate art form' to guide their mood boards and collections … call it fate, call it it’s destiny … this is a union that makes perfect sense.

In the aftermath of the tragic suicide of their front man and friend Ian Curtis, the remaining members of joy division decamped to study and indulge in the NYC club and burgeoning electronic scene of the early 80’s that would see them morph into New Order. This era, that followed Post punk and merged Disco with New Wave was a renaissance period and movement in the lexicons of both art and music, emanating from the underground and subcultural cores of cities such as Chicago, Detroit and the Big Apple, it was a movement that would forever influence and curate the subsequent lineage of the bands sonic trajectory …Oberheim DMX beats, basslines and orchestral synthesised sounds.

You need to look to the disciplines of design, architecture and culture, paired with the disillusionment of industrial collapse and almost tangible political dissonance and dislocation to comprehend the contributing factors that helped to birth New Order.

One of the great pleasures experienced via these disciplines when indulging in the band, was being treated to the duality of ground-breaking graphic design and music via the artwork of longtime Factory records artist in residence and friend of the band, the legendary Peter Saville.

The amalgam of these two creative powerhouses ART & MUSIC was and still remains to be an impact point associated with the band’s success…

So much of New Order’ appeal was in the vulnerability and romance prevalent in the lyrics and the searing intoxicating omnipresent synths provided by Gillian Gilbert, the perfect rhythm section partnership of Hook & Morris with the wavering emotive vocal delivery of Bernard Sumner … New order are a band to indulge in, share with that special person and fall in love to, their back catalogue will provide the beautiful soundtrack that will help you remember the best of times.

This is what makes this union of Noah x New Order make sense. It’s guided by the underlying sentiment of romance... Noah is a brand who see beauty in the little things and bring them to our attention with accents, idiosyncrasies and intelligent sub cultural references prevalent in their meticulous design process and output.

New Order composed ‘synthonic symphonies’ by seeking an escape from darkness and using music as the route map to the light and that’s why we celebrate this coming together as the light is something we’re all chasing in 2021.

I stood there beside myself
Thinking hard about the weather
Then came by a friend of mine
Suggested we go out together

The Perfect Kiss - New Order
