REDWING HERITAGE X WANT SHOW LAUNDRY
Redwing and Redwing heritage are without doubt one of ‘the’ accidental style icons for the 20th & 21st century from a brand perspective, not only that, they are also proud and pro active in stating that they are OUT OF FASHION, canny words in this brave new world of untenable desire for more more more … Redwing Heritage educate in perspective the life skill to 'buy once and buy wise’, a brand made with love and built to last! So brimming with pride are Redwing Heritage at their commitment to an anti fashion ethos that they have put their proverbial 'heart on their boots' and entitled their latest global campaign … you guessed it - Out Of Fashion
As part of their campaign roll out 'boot print' Redwing Heritage have formed a friendship and working alliance with the two owners of the esteemed and somewhat mythical 'Want Show Laundry', a destination dry cleaning and laundry service in Taiwan.
To give the laundromat and the proprietary protagonists some context, and you, the reader, some perspective … Want Show Laundry found themselves insta famous and stylistically notorious via their uploading of images of themselves self styled in their customers ‘left behind’ laundry in an attempt to ensure their return by luring them back to pick up their neglected clothing. This intelligent concept in media driven counter intelligence culture, and theatrically creative repurposing of ‘forgotten garments’ brought Want Show to the attention of Redwing Heritage and so there was formed the partnership.
They have partnered to release a special collection of rare, limited-edition boots to celebrate and promote circular fashion, bringing Redwing Heritage’ commitment to sustainable consumption to life. This is a clever and timely collaboration, in fact it is better referred to as a ‘union' based on the foundations of mutual respect and a shared philosophy.
The 'unique union’ will feature 30 resurfaced styles dug up from the Red Wing Heritage archives, from “forgotten” and discontinued cult favourites to never-before-seen prototypes, including ones made with repurposed scrap leather.
All released boots under the collaboration will feature a special embossed logo hang-tag and insole, and will be auctioned off beginning March 17 through March 24 with proceeds benefitting the Want Show Laundry Redefine Project. Bidding begins at $200 (£145) The full assortment will be available online here on March 17.
Through the Out of Fashion campaign and this particular partnership, Red Wing Heritage aims to bring a new appreciation for timeless, slow-fashion and support of circular fashion programs such as the Want Show Laundry Redefine Project.
The Redefine Project creates a central platform for Taiwan laundromats to sell long-forgotten clothing items, and puts proceeds toward laundromats’ unpaid bills due to left behind garments, with remaining money going to charity.
Fashion as we know it, is detrimental both to the planet and the wallet, it demands a lot from the many, thus it can be compared to an angry mosquito (as a visual metaphor) irritated and itinerant in its relentless pursuit of change, never content and encouraging of wanton consumption, never sitting still.
Redwing however favour the 'slow meandering walk in the meadow' approach and maintain the mantra that ’style will last forever and belongs solely to the individual’. Its time for change …
