SNOW PEAK SS22: LIVING WITHOUT BOUNDARIES

As we’re going through the grim, short winter days of January, Snow Peak has released its SS22 right on time for the much needed dose of sun we are all lacking at the minute. The label’s new seasonal range of apparel proves to be versatile for spring to summer, for urban landscapes and nature settings, and, as shown in the lookbook, for the farm and the skatepark. This season’s Snow Peak lookbook immerses us into the daily life of Yuichiro Wakamatsu, a local mandarin orange farm in the Japanese area of Uwajima and a skateboarder, too.

Yuichiro’s story is compelling: whilst studying at uni in Tokyo, the Uwajima-born son of farmers became very keen on skateboarding to the point where, when he moved back home after graduating with the aspiration to become a full-fledge mandarin farmer, he’s built a skate ramp to keep that passion alive, and share it with mates and other locals. As he says himself: “I wanted to create a place where these friends could stay in Uwajima and enjoy nature, harvest mandarin oranges and enjoy skating while communicating with local people”.

Snow Peak’s apparel and gear were seemingly perfectly suited to the world of Yuichiro, as we see the 29-year old going about his day working in the fields, and then to end it with a cheeky mandarin juice right before hitting the skatepark. As always with Snow Peak, functionality is the focal point: recycled packable rainwear jackets, relaxed-fit Light Mountain Cloth garms and lightweight ripstop shirts, pullovers and overalls make up the collection. Just perfect to spend the day outdoors, no matter what the weather.
