STONE ISLAND: PROTOTYPE RESEARCH_SERIES 06

As ever, Stone Island pushes the envelope in terms of fabric research and innovation. For the sixth instalment in the Prototype Research Series, the Italian label featured garments in cutting-edge materials and treatments that are yet to be industrialised. Omnipresent throughout the capsule, Kevlar®—a tough, sturdy fabric with thermal stability—channels the label’s spirit of performative exploration.

Using a technical application dubbed “stretch broken”, the Kevlar®-core fabric is covered in fine cotton yarns which desintegrates thanks to a cutting-edge dévoré printing technique. This near-futuristic process results in an all-over pattern that reveals theKevlar® core with its characteristically yellow colour, with the unveiled yarns creating a light technical lace visible to the naked eye. Finished with a resin treatment, the lightweight but strong fabric sports a fine, gritty texture.
