Tell us about what you do and why you do it.
To give myself a title, I would say I’m an artist. I design sets for stills and movies, and I also do furniture design, product design and interior design for stores. I didn’t know anything about art or design to begin with, but through my connections and encounters with people, I met my mentor in this business and I've been working with him ever since. It was simply a cool thing to do. That’s how it all started.
お仕事の内容と、それを始めたきっかけについて教えて下さい。
美術という肩書きとしてスチールやムービーなど、撮影のためのセットデザイン。他には、什器設計・プロダクトデザイン、店舗の内装デザインなどです。美術やデザインという仕事のことは何も知りませんでした。
人とのつながりや出会ってきた中で、この仕事における師と出会って、それからはずっと一緒に仕事させてもらってました。シンプルにかっこいいと思えたことです。それがきっかけです。
How does living in Tokyo impact what you do?
Tokyo is small and cramped. Perhaps it’s simply the impression I get, but it feels so dense and tight. It’s like you can go beyond the traditional five senses and experience a completely new sense in Tokyo.
東京について感じること、また東京という場所がご自身に与えた影響はありますか？
東京って狭いとか窮屈とか。単純にそんな印象かもしれない。それだけ密でぎゅっとしてて、五感以外のものを広げらげるみたいな感覚。もうひとつ膨らませられる。そんなことに気づけるようなところかなって思います。
How has the current climate affected your approach to work?
I’m certain there will be big changes and certain ramifications due to what’s going on in the world right now, but when I try to explain or comprehend what they may be, I just can’t find the words.
昨今の世の中の変化、そして新たな生活様式がご自身のお仕事、生活に変化をもたらせましたか？
きっと変化はあります。こうゆう感じで言葉にしようとしたら「 」。（本当に何も出てこないです。わかんない。）

What motivates you to succeed?
I’m motivated by the calm, gentle feeling I find in the every day.
モチベーション、ご自身のエネルギーの源があれば教えて下さい。
穏やかだったり、やさしい気持ちで過ごせるようなことがそうだと思って毎日やってます。
How important is function and comfort to you?
It’s very important. Function and comfort go hand-in-hand with what I do and what I believe in.
「心地良さ」や「機能性」について、必要だと思う瞬間はありますか？
すごくあります。前記で書いたことと並んでることと思います。
Tell us about your personal environment and the impact your surroundings have on you.
For the first time in a while, I’m now living in what you might call the city centre. It’s actually the first time in my life I chose to live in a place like this, where there is a real buzz during the day but the nights are so quiet. In a way, that gives me a clearer sense of time. To this day, the scenery in Tokyo still moves me. Also, I think I’ve somehow gained a better sense of smell by being in this environment.
今、ご自身のいらっしゃる環境や、それが与えた影響について教えて下さい。
ここ数年初めて都心と呼ばれるようなところに住んでます。はじめて意図的にそういうところに住んでみて、日中のガヤガヤが終わって、夜はものすごく静かになって、ある意味時間の見え方が明確で、景色も含めて感慨深くて、今もところ気に入ってます。なんだか鼻が利くようになったかなと。嗅覚とは別のです。
