Tell us about what you do and why you do it.
I’m an actor. I do films and theatre, but I also work in fashion. It all started when I was looking for a job at university and I just applied to an agency.
お仕事の内容と、それを始めたきっかけについて教えて下さい。
俳優として映画や演劇に出演したり、ファッションの仕事もしてます。きっかけは、大学での就職活動中に、自分で事務所に応募したことです。
How does living in Tokyo impact what you do?
Tokyo is my dream city. I’ve been living here for almost 10 years now, and I still have that feeling of excitement I had when I first moved here. If I hadn’t lived in Tokyo when I was a student, I probably wouldn't have chosen the career I have now. In that sense, I think it’s the place that showed me anything is possible.
東京について感じること、また東京という場所がご自身に与えた影響はありますか？
東京は僕の憧れです。東京に住んでもうすぐ10年になりますが、その気持ちは今も変わりません。学生時代、東京に住んでいなければおそらく僕は今の仕事を選んでいません。そういう意味で、僕に可能性を見せてくれた場所かなと思います。
How has the current climate affected your approach to work?
It has made me think about the meaning of what I do – in work and in life itself. In a society where every action involves risk and the word ‘self-responsibility’ has become more prominent, I feel as though I now have a clearer idea of what I want to do and what I need to do.
昨今の世の中の変化、そして新たな生活様式がご自身のお仕事、生活に変化をもたらせましたか？
仕事も生活も、今までなんとなくやってきたことの意味を考えるようになりました。あらゆる行動にリスクが伴い、自己責任という言葉が目立つようになった社会で、それでもやりたいこと、やらなくてはいけないことが、明確になった気がします。

What motivates you to succeed?
For me, it’s the jealousy or envy I feel when I see an interesting film or play that I wish I had been in. I think that turns into motivation. I also find motivation in just talking to my friends and family – the people who support me.
モチベーション、ご自身のエネルギーの源があれば教えて下さい。
面白い映画や演劇を観た時の嫉妬だったり、応援してくれている友達や家族と話した時、それがモチベーションに変わっていると思います。
How important is function and comfort to you?
During the state of emergency here in Japan, there was a kind of lockdown and I didn’t see anyone for a long time. My vision became narrower, and my mind became more and more confused. There were times when I really couldn’t think straight. In hindsight, I think I needed comfort and functionality at that moment.
「心地良さ」や「機能性」について、必要だと思う瞬間はありますか？
自粛期間中、人に会わない時間が続いた時、どんどん視野が狭くなって、頭がこんがらがり、シンプルに考えられなくなっていた時期がありました。今思えば、あの瞬間に「心地良さ」や「機能性」が必要だったと思います。
Tell us about your personal environment and the impact your surroundings have on you.
Coming from the countryside to Tokyo, and then becoming an actor and getting to where I am now, there’s been a lot of changes in my environment. I’ve met a lot of people along the way, and I’ve been influenced by all of them. That has shaped who I am today. I hope I can continue to enjoy the influences of my environment and the people in it.
今、ご自身のいらっしゃる環境や、それが与えた影響について教えて下さい。
地方から東京に出てきて、俳優を目指して、今に至るまで、いろんな環境の変化があり、たくさんの人に出会いましたが、そのすべての影響を受けて、今の自分は成り立っています。これからも、身近な物や人からの影響を楽しんでいければと思います。
