ROSCOMAR FW21
Founded in 2017 by Johan Olsson and Matthew Taylor, Roscomar is a global sneaker brand founded with a carbon-neutral philosophy. By recruiting a team of industry experts in the respective fields of design, technical development and branding, Roscomar was able to untangle its environmental footprint and significantly lowering it during the course of the last four years.
Alongside the in-house design team, Roscomar launched its Development Advisory Board in 2021. The Board’s objective is to support Roscomar in fulfilling its Guiding Principles: Minimise Carbon, Measure Everything and Solve End-of-Life. Specifically, the Board helps to guide the brand’s research and development efforts and associated topics including material innovation, sourcing, manufacturing, logistics and communications.
With their latest FW21 collection, London based footwear brand Roscomar offers a range of classic trainer silhouettes that present contemporary solutions to a global footwear problem characterised by excessive carbon emissions and a lack of recycling options.
With the brand’s ethos based around responsibility and the overall lifespan of their products, Roscomars shoes are manufactured with minimal expense to the earth and its environment.
By working with biodegradable and organic materials, Roscomar is able to recycle and reuse product components even after their lifespan has ended. Adding a unique Afterlife ID into each pair, customers are able to track and retrace their shoes recycling statues, allowing for full transparency within the process.
Taking it one step further, Roscomar added the specific carbon footprint for each shoe onto the inner tongue further allowing customers to fully comprehend the environmental impact of each pair.
By applying the same “less but better” approach to their design process, Roscomars harmoniously plays with subtle design ques whilst falling back onto a subtle colour pallet with understated logos and branding. Models including the “Court Recycled Leather”, “Court 50/50 Vegan” and “Court 50/50” all utilize recycled and repurposed materials resulting in a carbon footprint as low as 5.28 kg, less than half of the footprint of an average sneaker.
